In My Humble Opinion: You remember about week or so ago I said the horror genre seemed to be the one genre that a group of people could come up with an idea for a movie and then go out and make an entertaining film that could be enjoyed by those who saw it? Well, that’s the case with Burnt at Both End Productions’ film Treats. It’s a short film that was written by Echo Soleil (doing double duty as a producer as well) and Directed by Coven Delacruz. It stars a stunning Lindy Starr who portrays the character Karen…who has some serious pet/diet issues. Without giving away too many details, the movie centers on Karen, her pet cat, and a creature that…let’s say steers clear of things made of silver. The opening of the movie sprinkles in some comedy with some witty banter between our main character Karen and a “trick or treater” who is funnily enough, dressed up like a cat. From there the film’s primary focus is on Karen. Set to an eery film score by Jason Ruch the director utilizes basic camera motion to follow Karen around the house keeping the viewer guessing as to what will happen next. The film itself almost reminds me of the scene when Jamie Lee Curtis’ Lori from Halloween gets home from school and goes about her routine. Keeping that in mind, it’s always kind of hard to act natural when you know you’re being filmed, especially when you’re supposed to be going about your normal routine, but Lindy Starr pulls it off nicely. The climax of the movie reveals Tony Jones who portrays the creature that will go unnamed in some pretty impressive make-up as well. All in all, the film Treats is a cool little movie that can be watched and enjoyed for what it is, a movie made by filmmakers and actors who love what they do and want to share that with people who appreciate it…and I for one, am one of those people.
